how is Slate different?
Lactose is a large sugar that over half of adults have trouble digesting. We peel the skin off of bananas. We take the pit out of avocados. We avoid the seeds in watermelon. Why don’t we remove the lactose from milk? Sometimes, natural products in their original form need small adjustments for us to properly digest them. Milk is no different. All Slate products are 100% lactose free.
how do we have less sugar than normal milk?
We naturally filter out most of milk’s natural sugars (lactose) using a process called ultrafiltration. It’s pretty simple, no chemicals nor ground-breaking technology involved. Our milk is still fresh and delicious.
is it safe to order online?
YES it is safe. NO there are not preservatives. Our products are 100% natural. We use the same pasteurization technique that you see with many current coffee drinks in both cans and glass. Without preservatives, using this process, we can deliver products safely to your door without refrigeration. But like most drinks - drink it cold for best taste!
why aluminum cans?
Not only do we just love cracking open a nice cold chocolate milk, but aluminum cans are the most recycled, and one of the most recyclable types of packaging. According to The Aluminum Association, 75% of all aluminum ever produced is still being used today - so please recycle after chugging! Like the milk-based cold brew coffees and lattes you see in the market, being in an aluminum can does not impact the taste of our products.
where is your milk sourced from?
We source our milk from family-owned dairy farms, here in the United States. These farmers care about their animals. Because of this, they are fully compliant under the AWA (Animal Welfare Act) and make sure the cows are well fed!

After years of waiting for a ‘modern’ chocolate milk to hit the market, we decided to take action - and fix everything wrong with this classic, naturally protein-rich category. Because while we may not be health gurus nor gold-medal athletes, we do everything we can to live an active and healthy lifestyle. This meant making our favorite drink, chocolate milk, better.
